Dare and Parmak Chargers

Electric Fence Chargers

In general, a 1.4-joule low impedance charger is suitable for the average electric horse fence. However, where the fence is long (say half a mile or more), or where significant weed burdens or grounding problems (dry ground, frozen soil) are anticipated, it makes sense to use a 3-joule charger (see information: electric fence parts, chargers page 1). Details about each of the chargers listed below can be found in the electric fence chargers section.

Undergate and Hookup Wire

Insulated Undergate and Hookup Wire

Undergate and hookup wire is needed to hook the electric fence charger up to the fence and to carry the charge under a gate. For more information see Insulated Wire and Insulator Tubing. Get as much as you need (a) to go from an AC-powered charger (at an AC outlet) to the fence and (b) to go from the electrified conductor on one side of the gate, down under the gate, and up to the electrified conductor on the other side.

Polybraids

Polyrope, Polybraid, and Other Conductors

The polyrope below (02-57) is suitable for fences up to 5,000 feet long. Beyond that distance it is better to use the more expensive premium polyrope (02-95), electrobraid (02-64), or Hot Coat (02-66), or else to set up two or more separate systems with their own chargers. (The conductors for such two-charger systems must be kept separate from one another). For a broader selection of polyropes see Polyrope and Polybraid. For more information on high-tensile products see High-Tensile Fence for Horses.
