About Dare, Field Guardian, and Parmak Chargers
The Dare and Field Guardian lines of electric fence chargers are similar. Both feature all-weather construction, modular circuitry for easy service, and an output that increases under difficult electric fence conditions to make up for power drained off the fence by weeds and brush. All these chargers come with built-in lightning protection, as well as a manufacturer’s warranty against both defects and lightning damage. Even so, in the case of long fences and the more expensive chargers it makes good sense to provide additional lightning protection by installing a lightning choke (see lightning chokes) and a separate grounding system for the choke. All of the Dare and Field Guardian chargers are low impedance chargers, come with installation instructions, and feature a flashing light that indicates when the charger and its immediate fence connections are working properly.
Parmak’s chargers are well-established workhorses of the electric fence world. Those sold today feature advanced solid-state circuitry and built-in lightning protection. A flashing light or a digital kilovolt display indicates when the charger and its immediate connections are working properly. In addition, all Parmak chargers carry a warranty against manufacturing defects and lightning damage. Perhaps because of its long history, Parmak is very responsible and prompt but a bit stodgy about its warranties. If you think a charger has failed on its own or been struck by lightning, Parmak will not immediately dispatch a new charger. Instead it will insist that the charger be returned so that it can be examined and repaired or replaced as necessary. All of Parmak’s AC-powered units, as well as its battery-powered EM-200, are designed for installation in a clean, dry location protected from the weather. Instructions and mounting screws are included.

Warranties
All of the Dare, Field Guardian, Fi-Shock, Parmak, and Zareba chargers offered on this website come with at least a one-year manufacturer’s warranty that covers defects in materials and workmanship and also damage by lightning. Parmak warrants that any Parmak charger returned to the factory within one year (or two years in the case of the Range Master and Solar Pak 12 models) after purchase from this website will be repaired or replaced free of charge. Parmak’s gel batteries come with a one-year warranty, and the special steel housings on Parmak’s chargers are warranted for life against rust.
