Fi-Shock Spitfire V (SS-5) Low Impedance Electric Fence Charger, 0.5 Joules
The Fi-Shock Spitfire V (SS-5) electric fence charger should be regarded as a more powerful version of the DE 80 and should be used for similar purposes. With a maximum 0.5 joule output, it does a good job powering electrical systems that protect existing barrier horse fences by preventing horses from chewing or leaning on them. In fact it does a better job than the DE 80 because it administers a slightly larger jolt and can deal with more imperfections on the line. And while it gives a stronger shock than the DE 80, the shock is still minor and far less likely to startle horses in small enclosures than are the shocks administered by more powerful electric fence chargers. Voltage data: This electric fence charger is not suitable for shocking horses on an electric horse fence with any significant weed burden because a relatively minor weed burden providing a 500-ohm path to the ground will drain enough power to drop the voltage down to 1700, below the 2000 volt minimum needed to reliably shock horses. Other animals: The Spitfire V is very useful for harmlessly shocking dogs, cats, and small intruders (squirrels, rabbits, woodchucks, raccoons, opossums) because it will maintain over 700 volts on the line, even on an electric fence with a fairly heavy weed burden. General data: The SS-V features all-weather construction, built-in lightning protection, instructions, and a one-year warranty covering both defects and lightning damage. A light flashes to indicate that the charger and its immediate connections are working properly.
