About Our AC-powered Electric Fence Chargers
All the AC-powered electric fence chargers that we offer are designed to plug directly into a 120-110-volt AC outlet. All are low-impedance electric fence chargers, and all but the little Dare 80 are UL listed. All of these electric fence chargers produce sufficient voltage under normal conditions to shock horses. However, the power of the shock they can administer varies greatly. Suitable uses for specific chargers are noted in the individual charger descriptions and also in our Table of Chargers for Specific Animals and Situations.
Dare Enforcer 80 (DE 80) Low Impedance Electric Fence Charger, 0.2 Stored Joules
The Dare Enforcer 80, with a mere 0.2 joule output, is not recommended for use with a stand-alone electric horse fence. However, it does a good job powering electrical systems that protect existing barrier horse fences by preventing horses from chewing or leaning on them. In fact, the Enforcer 80 is especially well suited to this job in small horse fence enclosures, because the minor shock it gives is less likely to startle horses than are the shocks administered by more powerful electric fence chargers. Voltage data: Not suitable for shocking horses on an electric horse fence with any significant weed burden because the weeds will drain enough power off the horse fence to drop the voltage below the 2,000 volt minimum needed to reliably shock horses. Other animals: Very useful for harmlessly shocking dogs, cats, and small intruders (squirrels, rabbits, woodchucks, raccoons, opossums) because it will maintain over 700 volts even on electric fences with a heavy (100 ohm) weed burden. General data: The DE 80 features all-weather construction and modular circuitry for fast and easy service. It comes with built-in lightning protection, instructions, and a one-year warranty covering both defects and lightning damage. A light flashes to indicate that the charger and its immediate connections are working properly.
