Introduction

We will be pleased to provide you with a full list of electric fencing materials and a formal materials quote for your fence based on a discussion of your electric fencing needs. (Please call us at 508-888-8305 to activate this service.) At the same time, we realize that many of our customers would prefer to do their own planning. Therefore, we have set up these pages for assessing variables, looking at different possibilities, and coming up with your own list of electric fencing materials. Should you have questions along the way, feel free to contact us at electric fence queries or 508-888-8305.

Plan Your Own Fence

Follow the instructions below to create a list of the electric fence materials you need step by step. The process will place a complete list of materials in your shopping cart. If you do not wish to purchase these items now, simply print out the shopping cart so that you can use the list for planning, or else save the list in your computer by following the instructions on the last page (“Completing Your Plan”). Then remove the items by clicking on "Empty your cart" at the lower left of the cart.

Choose Your Fence Type

The kinds of supplies for electric fences that you need will depend on the type of fence you want to build. We provide plans for the following types:

Permanent Outer Electric Fences: These are strong stand-alone fences designed to contain horses by themselves, without any backup fences. This type of electric fencing should be plenty strong enough to minimize any chances of horses getting loose. Use this link to plan a permanent outer electric fence.

Permanent Inner Electric Fences: These are stand-alone permanent electric horse fences that have other fences outside them to contain horses should they get through the electric fence. Because of the backup fence, the requirements for such electric fences are less stringent. The main differences between them and the permanent outer horse fences described above is that we do not include a 2-inch polytape option with these horse fences, we recommend wider spacing between posts (up to 30 feet), we recommend that inner horse fences be 4 feet high, and where fiberglass posts are used we recommend 5/8-inch fiberglass posts for these inner horse fences rather than 3/4-inch ones. Movable Pasture Fence: This type of fence should be easily movable from one grazing area to another. For this reason our planning guidelines feature economical step-in posts and other readily portable materials. To plan a movable pasture fence click here.

Portable Paddock/Corral Fence: This short electrified fence (typically 160 to 320 feet) is made light for travelling to campsites or horse shows and for being set up in a matter of minutes. To plan a Portable Paddock/Corral Fence click here.

Protective Electric Fencing: Horses and other livestock often chew or lean on wooden or vinyl horse fences. To discourage that, install a low-key electric fence attached to your wood or vinyl fence at one or more appropriate heights. To plan such a fence click here.
